I hate my full-time MBA
and I should have never come here. There, I said it. Been keeping that one under wraps for a while. So much for all the people I talked to and all the advice I got. They were wrong. All of them. My experience has been terrible. In the short term, this is a gigantic waste of my time and money. Any long term gains, if they even exist, can't be monetized right now and won't be realized for quite some time. I have another year of this nightmare, and sadly, I can't transfer. | | Thursday, April 26th, 2007 | | 11:10 am |
ugh
sooo tired. every time it seems like i can take a vacation day something happens and i have to prep for some big meeting, or i have to interview someone, or i have to train someone in something, or something is due. can't i catch a break? sorry for whining, nobody reads this anyway. ugh. | | Friday, April 20th, 2007 | | 1:38 pm |
Ninja Warrior
Everyone's favorite male gymnasts Paul and Morgan Hamm were contestants on Ninja Warrior a couple of days ago. Paul made it through stage 1, but Morgan did not. He couldn't get up the warped wall. What a pansy. | | Thursday, April 12th, 2007 | | 10:17 pm |

Doh
Thank goodness the season is over. Things I just couldn't take more of: Greg Paulus throwing the ball away DeMarcus Nelson missing a layup, getting stuffed, or dribbling Josh McRoberts(our only post player) playing 20 feet from the basket Brian Zoubek not getting back on defense Either of our white guards getting passed right by on defense Pocius not getting any playing time Lance Thomas trying to play center at 150 lbs No quality bench players to speak of | | Wednesday, March 14th, 2007 | | 5:43 pm |

Kind of funny
From the DBR mailbag "We love to watch basketball on TV…especially Duke. But now we are turning it off as it is so irritating. The students jumping up and down and moaning or whatever you might call that sound….clapping and raising their arms…from the TV screen it is hard to watch the floor action with all the action going on in the stands. It seems to be unsportsman-like conduct. Can you please instruct these students they are a deterrent not an asset to the game. We would like to see ten basketball players doing their best on the basketball floor without all the antics in the stands. Thank you…Marcia" | | Friday, February 16th, 2007 | | 10:55 am |

Update
Lisa's pregnant! Just kidding. Options abound... Stay where I am? Try to go somewhere better like Booz Allen or Deloitte? Start a company? Go to Business School? I wish I knew what I wanted to do with my life so I could make a choice... Anyone going to Jamaica for sure? | | Tuesday, January 2nd, 2007 | | 1:05 pm |
Statue of Liberty Play
Did anyone happen to catch the Fiesta Bowl last night? That was one of the most exciting games of just about anything I've ever seen. If anyone didn't see it, it involved a 90-yard TD drive that took about 1 minute, a game-tying 2-point conversion, a hook-and-ladder that went for a touchdown, an interception return for a touchdown with 1 minute left to play in the game, and the statue of liberty play that went for 2 points to win the whole thing in overtime. It was amazing, definitely worth staying up til close to 1 to watch. I saw President Ford's caravan pass by me on the way to work today. The past couple of days we've been entertaining ourselves with the old SNL Dana Carvey/Tom Brokaw skit where Gerald Ford gets eaten by wolves. You-tube it if you want. Oh, and Justin Timberlake's Dick-in-a-Box video. | | Thursday, December 21st, 2006 | | 12:30 pm |
Home tomorrow
So after a month from hell at work I'm going home for a week for some rest and relaxation. It hasn't been so much the hours(those have been reasonable), but the increased amount of stress that goes along with being the one held responsible for everything. I have yet to be in a meeting in my 2 years in consulting where there has been someone younger than me. Even the new guy who just started on my team after getting a degree is older than me. Lately I've been leading meetings on a topic I know very little about, attempting to sound intelligent so as to not embarass myself, even though there's a much more senior guy who should be leading the meetings(and, actually, the project) if not for his utter lack of any presentation skills whatsoever. I don't know what the 50-something government executive is thinking as he watches some 20-something pretend to know what he's talking about. But I guess if the person sounds like he knows, then you may as well accept it. Anyway, this whole management thing has got me thinking as to whether I'd like to do management for the rest of my career or do something more technical. Exxon had it so that there were two craer paths...technical and management and both were equally weighted. I think that's a good idea. Maybe I should go back to engineering, I don't know. OK, I just want to go home now and not think about work. Today is a big day for the Woodrow House. Duke vs. Gonzaga. Mike and Rami vs Brian(his sister goes to Gonzaga, and was actually voted ESPN Ms. Gonzaga last year). | | Friday, December 8th, 2006 | | 12:50 pm |

kind of funny
A couple years ago when I was first getting into triathlons I googled "Duke and Ironman". There were a couple of interesting links: one from the Chronicle about a few grad students competing in Ironman triathlons, and there was a link to this guy's webpage who's sponsored by some triathlon equipment suppliers. It had a bio page so I looked at it. The guy was pretty impressive, varsity swimming at Duke, Navy ROTC and deep-sea diver school, UCSF med school, sub-10 hour IM Hawaii finisher, the list went on. His bio said he was in Pika at Duke, so I asked my friend Josh(2002) if he knew him in school. He said yeah he was a nice guy, and said he was the badass of the fraternity. Well anyway Josh called me yesterday and said, "remember that guy you mentioned who did Ironmans and was a Pike? He's the next Bachelor." Maybe I'll watch an episode. I still don't know what is wrong with me. The initial tests for mono, strep, and the flu were negative, but my liver enzymes were higher than the norm. So they tested me for hep, all of which were negative. Now my sympyoms are mostly gone except I have a weird cough, that I'm not sure is caused by the nasal spray I've been using or whether it's a relic of whatever illness I had. Anyway, they told me to go back in a couple weeks to retest my liver. It was probably just a virus, but who knows. This weekend is busy: Lisa's boss's party in Baltimore Saturday afternoon, Halloween party on Saturday night(where I can't drink b/c of my liver), and volunteering at Marine Corps Marathon Sunday. I'll be dressed as a cow. | | Tuesday, October 17th, 2006 | | 1:38 pm |
Ouch
I have some unexplained illness...it hit me last Wednesday and I spent the weekend couch-ridden. I've been inexplicably tired for quite some time now, but Wednesday I started having weird body aches and my lymph nodes got swollen. I went to the doctor yesterday and they took some blood...testing for mono, strep, and some thyroid condition. Going to get results back Thursday. Saturday is the Hawaii Ironman, and I have a couple of friends down there doing it. They said they're training and having coffee with all the best pros in the world...oh and they're still holding the race in spite of the earthquake. | | Friday, October 6th, 2006 | | 12:59 pm |
Vertically Challenged
Interesting, saw this on Rants 'n Raves on DC Craigs List. ---------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------- Reply to: pers-215989784@craigslist.org Date: 2006-10-04, 1:52PM EDT Are there any quality women out there with the whole package, not just beauty? I'm 35, SWM, 5'5", very fit, handsome, good job, I live in a nice place in a decent part of town, I'm kind to puppies, etc. I have no problems meeting women, but since I moved to DC 5 years ago I seem to keep meeting superficial women or the one-night stand girls who think they're still in college. I'd really like more substance than that and I'm sure there are women out there who are both attractive and intelligent as well as genuine and sincere. But apparently they're not in the same social circles as me, so I thought I'd give CL a go and see what turns up. Drop me a line if you fit the bill. I'm 35, SWM, 6'2", very fit, handsome, good job, I live in a nice place in a decent part of town, I'm kind to puppies, etc. I have no problems meeting women, but since I moved to DC 5 years ago I seem to keep meeting superficial women or the one-night stand girls who think they're still in college. Height is the only thing different. ---------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------- A personals experiment. I posted an ad in the personals M4W section, describing an imaginary man, what he was looking for, etc. The ad received zero responses, but that was expected because the man's height was listed as 5'5". The next day I posted the same exact ad but made one slight change. The man's height was listed as 6'3". That opened the floodgates. The ad got responses from 9 different women gushing and tripping over themselves to impress the man behind the ad. A few even sent photos. Of those who listed their height, none were over 5'5". Some were as short as 5'2", but these women made it very clear that they love to wear heels. One woman responded three times (?), and I got one response from a woman in Russia, who, oddly enough, was the most straight-forward and seemingly honest about what she was looking for. The funny thing is all of the women, every single one, went to great lengths to say how they identified with this 6'3" man's personality and felt they already had a common bond. I'm not sure why they didn't feel the same connection to the personality when it was in a 5'5" package. Perhaps they just didn't see the first ad. I think that's unlikely though because I know for a fact that some of the women who responded are serial responders and probably scan the M4W ads on a daily basis. Conclusion: For women (or at least those lurking in the CL personals), a man's personality and level of attractiveness are directly correlated with his height. no -- it's NOT ok to contact this poster with services or other commercial interests |
